Day 81

"When all of the world was trapped in reptilian bodies, I walked a mammal amongst lizards." This is going to be my opening line for my future book about teaching, and what it has meant to me.

One of my former students who honestly already has enough attention, but yet demands more, has asked for me to mention her in this missive. As a bludgeon to her hubris and a general service to everyone else I refuse to make any mention of the interaction.

Today Sybil, my dog and life partner, refused to return from her walk. She was adamant about staying outside and I thought perhaps she was feeling the yearnings of her wolf heart, to walk the wild and chase prey like a sophomore chases vending machines! But alas, I discovered her reason for being unwilling to return home. She had hidden orange peels in her bed. Many orange peels. I imagine she stole them from the garbage, but oddly nothing else was touched. So, I remain without judgement for perhaps she just was lying gracefully in bed, peeling oranges and quietly eating them while awaiting my return. I have no proof this didn't happen.

I would have started my blog sooner, but I was involved in a YouTube video documentary of cruise ship disasters and watching these great ships face adversity, and yet continue to struggle against heroic evil, seeing them cast about, struggling to overcome the wrath of seas intent on destroying them, it made me reflect on my own journey through life and my relationship with my classes. Particularly fourth hour. Many of them are now openly defying even the simplest instructions. And yet I crest another wave as the day ends.
