Day 8

Every dream evaporates upon waking and I am left with only mist that dissipates on the wings of the ceiling fan.

U.S. History enjoyed a quiz. Most people complained because it wasn't difficult enough and although they didn't say so out loud I could tell they were disappointed and pleading with me with their eyes to give them more homework to make up for the quizzes' shortcomings. I will begrudgingly comply, I guess.

Comprehensive Law watched a video about why your fifth amendment rights are important no matter how innocent you may be. You have the right to remain silent. However most of my students choose not to be. So I present what being in an AICE class is actually like.

The following is a transcript of a conversation I may have had today:

Student 1: "Mr. Petraitis, Can I go to the bathroom?"

Me: " In a minute, let me finish explaining annotated bibliographies."

Student 2 "How about me? Can I go?"

Me: "Hold on, I'm explaining annotated bibliographies."

Student 3: "How about me? Can I have a pass to the bathroom?"

Me: "No. Just give me a minute...."

Student 1 again: "Mr. Petraitis, do you want to go to the bathroom while we all wait here?"

Me: "No the sinks aren't deep enough to hold my tears."

Student 2 again "Maybe we should just have class in the bathroom. I think that will solve the problem. Mr. Petraitis can teach and yet we can all still be in the bathroom."

Me. "That is a bad idea, student 2."

Student 4: "Are we ever going to learn about annotated bibliographies?"

Me: "Yes as soon as..." and then it was time for lunch and everyone left the building and completely ignored the bathroom as they walked straight past it and out the door.

Sophomore study hall, went to an assembly called "Success Assembly" and after looking at the crowd inside I thought "Maybe it will stick this year although it looks dubious." If you look up famous alumni from Cypress Bay, you find a kid that once got tased at a John Kerry speech at UF and another one that was a relatively mild pop singer. Sort of like a Vanilla Ice lite. He was actually one of my students and he once opened up for Snoop Dog. Snoop Dog has never been to Cypress Bay, but he's welcome anytime.
