Day 7
The nocturnal umbilical cord of sleep that ties me to the world of dreams was cut early this morning and I was birthed back into light. Is there no place down here to hide?
I arrived in the classroom and realized that soon it would become a theater of tears. A Coliseum of thought where scholarly gladiators would cross intellectual swords with my rather poorly explained classwork. By the end of the day I realized just how confusing the directions read. Don't worry kids, no matter how poorly I explain the instructions I still expect perfection from you, as I truly believe you are the terrifying future.
Before first period was over I was gifted a remarkable token. It's a bit early in the year for gift giving, nevertheless one of my more generous students gave me this:
(However knowing the kid that left this here I imagine it only has three wheels and a coat hangar for an antenna.)
As a teacher I usually just get whatever free giveaway comes with a new credit card or cologne purchase. There is also the inevitable Starbucks gift cards which come in handy for when I go to Starbucks with my computer and pretentious scarf while pretending to write screenplays.
I ended the day by voting. You should too. As soon as you are able.
