Day 49. Youth.
Today spirit week continues. Although once again SGA didn't use any of my themes, including my updated ones "Escape from Weston" and "The Purge" I still participated. Most people didn't notice because as a staff member it was my day to dress like a teen. Unfortunately as soon as I got to school I was handed a dress code violation and forced to wear a large baggy t-shirt. I didn't have enough time to grow my hair out and style it like a steamed broccoli floret. It would have looked like this:
Indistinguishable from the rest of the student body.
The rest of the day I went over the latest quiz with my class, briefly forgot a few of their names, and then played a preview game with them.
When I was in college one of the psychologists I loathed was B.F. Skinner. He basically proposed a system of education where students learn from machines, being rewarded with positive or negative stimulus. Now that I have been teaching for over 30 years I think he is a genius. I would love to rig my classroom so that wrong responses or behaviors deliver a small electronic shock to a desk, while correct behaviors drop one Skittle onto the desk from a ceiling Skittle dispenser. Or, if you don't like candy you could opt for something healthier like a poached egg. Imagine:
"What is the main idea of Federalist 78?"
"A strong independent Judiciary?" Close enough! "Splop". Poached egg drops. Everyone benefits.
B.F. Skinner's dream. The class of the future.
you may be a genius.
