Blue Day. Formerly B Day. Day 53.

“Censorship reflects society’s lack of confidence in itself. It is a hallmark of an authoritarian regime.”

–Potter Stewart

Where dreams end and night comfort meets the pavement of wakefulness, so begins my gentle landing in reality. I'm not a fan.

Today I watched as the makeup test for AP Government and Politics, tore childhood innocence from the cradle and tossed it into an incinerator of vengeance. Perhaps I'll formulate a more generous makeup assignment. Perhaps I won't. If I do it will be the last time this year I show mercy.

Sophomore study hall became a microcosm of America as I listened to at least one student formulate a plan, (a serious plan) to have all of his co-workers deported. I'm impressed and terrified. AP study hall is consistently entertaining.

For AICE Global Perspectives we went over the proper format for an AICE PowerPoint. At one point while researching APA format I came upon an article about a mom in Santa Rosa Florida reporting school media specialists for distributing pornography. You can read the article HERE. Right after that one of my co-workers came in to talk about some teacher thing and we both were amused. I then introduced her to my "Decriminalization of Prostitution" group, the "Sex Trafficking Group" etc.

These are things we are studying because we are concerned about the world we live in. We are not advocating for them. If the worst of the world comes to a child in the form of a library book then I have more hope for the future than I had previously.

We also study piracy which is probably just as bad as any of the other problems we care about as well as feeding hungry people, protecting refugees and having fair elections to protect democracies. Apparently a large part of the people in the state of Florida are very concerned with teens meeting gargoyles which is what the book being reported by Mom's for Liberty was about. So maybe next year we will have an AICE topic devoted to Gargoyle awareness.

U.S. History Honors, continues to make a case to remove the Honors designation from the class name. Today they talked me into giving them a quiz I was going to put off until next week. Congratulations period 8 on your self-goal. Good work!
