B Day September 30th

Freshman Study Hall: I have lived a life less abundant it seems. I misused my youth and now I can only live vicariously through Freshman Study Hall. The room was silent for ten minutes when a voice loudly proclaimed "OH NO, THE QUEEN DIED OF OLD AGE! I DIDN'T KNOW THAT COULD HAPPEN!" And so begins the existential angst, the questions and the disturbing taste of our own mortality. Today someone became mortal. On the subject of mortality they seemed fascinated by the social aspect of debilitating accidents. They almost to a person expressed they would be more concerned by the awkwardness of being hit by a car. They were less concerned with the physical implications, more so by having to lay in the street feeling stupid for having been hit. One freshman seemed to think he could leverage it into some sort of popularity. That student probably has some very slight indicators of Munchausen syndrome. Several of the freshman asked if I would write them letters of recommendation to college. I advised them to continue with high school and see how that goes first. For no particular reason a girl mentioned she fell head first off a slide and "hit my face into rocks!". Why someone put rocks under her slide is a question probably best left unasked. Another freshman mentioned he wore a particular skin care product meant to ward off mosquitoes. One of the girls mentioned her father wore the same type of cream. They all spent the next two minutes waiting for a turn to sniff him. The girl whose father wore the same cream exclaimed "You do smell like my father!" More disturbingly several other kids agreed he did.

U.S. History: We took a test. I gave you three tries. You did relatively well and I let you go to lunch. Some of you came back because you didn't realize you had been dismissed.

U.S. History Honors: We finished a power point about the native Americans and the Dawes Severalty Act. Many of you seemed more concerned with the loss of bison than the indicators of what that meant. The reality is certain to come to you though and hopefully you will experience real growth.
