B Day October 11th

Freshman Study Hall: At this point most of the class have settled in nicely. I told one student an obvious lie, when I assured him I was putting in a good word with his teachers. I am not, but I alerted them to answer in the affirmative in case he asks. I'm certain he will.

U.S. History Honors: We played Kahoot and did a WAVES activity. Probably. All of my classes are at various stages of disarray as the schedules keep changing at the whim of administration and whatever pleases them and makes their lives easier.

U.S. History: We finished our Jigsaw when word came in that we were on lockdown. Immediately students began asking to use the restroom. I repeat my vow to save at least a few of them in the case of an emergency on the condition that they build a statue of me in the courtyard. I tried to continue teaching when I got word that I needed to make a list of students that needed lunch. Those students then immediately began using me like a walking Uber menu, "Cheese Pizza, juice NO MILK". I'm so glad I went to college. It's really paying off for me.

At the end of the day I hosted the Model UN meeting. It went to 4 in the afternoon and when it was finally over I needed to go to the office to get my mail for the next day. However, the door to the office was locked but happily the afternoon head facilities person was standing FIVE FEET FROM THE DOOR I NEEDED TO ENTER. I asked politely if he could please let me in. Now I wanted to go into the office so I could retrieve materials I need to teach. I assume he didn't realize that if teaching ceases to exist at Cypress Bay, there will be no more need for his services as there will be no more facilities. He looked past me and said "not my job". He left me standing outside the office. It was only five feet away. I think of the daily sacrifices I make for the kids and co-workers I deal with and the fact that I was even there more than an hour after the school stopped paying me and yet he could not do me this one courtesy. So kids, here's a lesson. Be kind. If the U.S. History scores are low this year (which I am in charge of for the school) he will not get a bonus. Sometimes it takes the least effort to be kind.
