B Day August 19th

Freshman Study Hall: Once again the first few students were 45 minutes early. I imagine that is because they want to be first to get a place to lock their bicycle or razor scooter. They immediately began to demand I present them with text books, but I reminded them that we were not scheduled for another week. One person wanted to know if he was supposed to go to class in the Auditorium. I informed him that was not in fact my class, so of course I wouldn't know. He accepted this answer and returned to staring straight ahead. Some of them borrowed lap tops from the cart. It was amusing to see them try to tap away on the keyboard with their tiny little fingers. Sort of like watching a hamster trying to peel an extra large peanut.

U.S. History Honors took the EOC pre-test and I reminded them the letter response and quiz were due. I also reminded them of vocabulary due next week. Then we played a game that forced them to make hard decisions about their friendships. Most students were eager to destroy each other. Once again, this amused me.

U.S. History also took the quiz and played the game. The enthusiasm for this game was matched only by the sheer emotion it inspired. The class walked the edge of exhilaration and violence, and it was only through masterful control that I was able to keep the class from devolving into carnage and despair. I will do the vocabulary with this group in class next week.

As for myself I go home knowing full well there is a dead mouse on my back porch. My daughter sent me a picture of it. She covered it with a bucket and then went out, leaving me to deal with it after it has been sitting in the sun for some time. I know she told me where she was going but honestly I can't remember what she said. Probably a spa or something equally decadent and useless. And so I end my school day.
