A Day September 14th

As usual 1st hour was thuggish and menacing. I reviewed the test and realized that if I were to administer it at that very moment I would be forced to fight the entire class Lord of the Flies style. I am not up to that fight yet so I chose to show a movie. Most of the class seemed upset that there were no super heroes, and most wanted to know "What Universe" the United States Civil War took place in. One of my students after sizing me up came back later in the day to sell me dry, crumbly cookies because I look like a sucker. I bought them because she frightens me. Later this year if she needs extra credit I will sell them back to her for double the price.

AICE Global Perspectives A and AS Level worked on completion of their research mini-books. We split into groups like competitive groups of Vervet Monkeys and split up our topics. There was some contention over who would have "Decriminalization of Prostitution" and most of the class seemed to think "International Piracy" was somehow a nod to Johnny Depp. I informed them that there are very real pirates floating about in the world's waters. Many students seemed to brighten at this idea and I could tell many of them were re-thinking if college was even necessary. Some day I expect to find at least a third of them attempting to board the "Jungle Queen" for swag rather than pursuing more wholesome careers. I support this. We have too many financial planners and not enough buccaneers roaming the waters of the Intracoastal.
